What is the best root canal treatment procedure?

Root canal treatment is done when the dental cavity gets large and starts affecting the pulp. The pulp which is the jelly-like substance located in the middle of the root which provides the nerve and blood supply to the tooth. When the dental pulp is affected the patient experiences severe pain and discomfort while chewing
The root canal process involves isolation, local anaesthesia, cleaning, and shaping, filling, and core buildup. Let's examine what is the best options available in each of the steps of root canal treatment.

Root Canal Treatment Cost

1.Isolation:
The isolation process involves protecting the tooth from oral fluids while doing the root canal treatment procedure. The most common methods are a rubber dam or cotton roll isolation. While the rubber dam isolation is the best method, the most common practice is to use cotton rolls

2.Local anaesthesia:
Local anaesthesia is used to numb the area while performing the procedure. The best in class is The Wand computerized anaesthesia system. However, most commonly used methods are syringe based injection system with a local anaesthetic solution having adrenaline

3.Cleaning and Shaping:
The cleaning and shaping process involves cleaning the infected pulp and shaping the pulp cavity to receive the filling. The best methods to clean and shape are using rotary endodontic instruments under saline irrigation. Using a digital apex locator helps in measuring the correct root canal length. Manual instrumentation is outdated and not recommended.

4.Filling:
The filling material of choice for over 30 years is gutta-percha. Guttapercha points are available which are placed in the root canal cavity and then heat sealed. Over the last 10 years, there have been lots of improvement in the liquid gutta-percha for root canal filling which is supposed to be better than the regular GP points

5.Core-Buildup:
Once the root canal filling is done, the tooth is filled up with a core material. The core material of choice is composite resin. Glass ionomer cement is not the material of choice for core buildup.

The use of a microscope will increase the root canal treatment cost. It is especially useful to treatment curved canals, located accessory canals, retreatment, and retrieval of broken instruments.
